Maryland's election season is, frankly, a little boring

In 2014, Maryland turned into one of the most competitive electoral climates in the country. The combination of quality candidates and O’Malley fatigue led to the election of Republican Governor Larry Hogan and Republican victories across the state. Maryland looked poised to become a marginally two-party state.

Twelve years later, the status quo ante election will be the status quo post election. There are no competitive statewide races, no competitive Congressional elections, and practically no competitive legislative elections. Even ostensibly competitive State Senate seats like Anne Arundel County’s District 33 lack interest this year since Democratic State Senator Dawn Gile is being challenged by Republican Amy Leahy, a woman whose Facebook finger never rests and marches to the beat of her own algorithm.

That's boring! You're boring everybody. : r/TheSimpsons

So, where ARE the interesting races this year? Let’s investigate.

State Senate District 42: The most fascinating of all State Senate primaries is in the Republican Primary in District 42, where incompetent boob Adam Wood faces off with two firefighters, Kevin Ford and Matt Fox. Ford and Fox both have longstanding community ties and have raised tons of money. Wood has endorsements from people who don’t live there, an annoying self-important girlfriend in Nicolee Ambrose, and this photo from when he was a Ron Paul supporter at the University of Kansas.

A look at Student Senate hopefuls

I’m hard-pressed to see how Wood wins this, given his late start to the race, low fundraising and complete lack of community ties. But I’m also hard-pressed to pick a winner, too. But it does seem to be the only legislative Republican primary in Maryland with any juice to it.

Republican Gubernatorial Primary: ……..just kidding.
