Athletic Commission cracks down on license sharing, "rentals"
Memo issued on October 19 reiterates illegality of practice

that I wrote there tonight. I received a copy of a memo that the Maryland State Athletic Commission sent out to combat sports promoters earlier today. The memo deals with companies letting third parties use their license to hold combat sports events (in the case of my reporting, pro wrestling) and in many cases receiving “rental” payment for the usage. The Commission points out in the memo that this practice is costing them money and also causing hardships in sending inspectors, doctors, and other officials to events when they take place.This practice has long been illegal under the Maryland Code of Regulations (COMAR) but has been allowed to happen for many years.
