Why are you running for office? *
To provide a more cooperative approach to solving national problems effecting Marylanders
Who do you consider your political role model, and why? *
George Washington; He was a public servant would understood the challenges facing the nation.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why? *
Lincoln on Leadership. The book explores how Lincoln approached different problems in a government in turmoil.
What will be your top priority if elected? *
Border Security; Fixing the economy; Re-focusing the Department of Defense on defending our nation; Term Limits for Congress (limiting total time in Congress to 12 years)
What are the three biggest issues facing Maryland? *
Failing schools; lack of economic opportunity; out of control crime
What are the three biggest issues facing our country? *
Illegal immigration; threats from terrorism, non-state actors, China and Russia; failed economic policies that have led to high prices for everything.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide) *
We live in a Democrat Republic where the majority decides policy. I pledge to support the positions of Marylanders in the Senate and not to vote in a manner contrary to the positions of Marylanders. The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision returns the abortion issue to the States - and Marylanders have expressed their support for legal abortion. As Senator, I will support the position of Marylanders - not my own - on all issues. Assisted suicide needs to be regulated and should only be de-criminalized in circumstances where the individual is terminally ill and physically suffering. It should be done under a Physician's supervision.
What is your position on taxes, spending, and the federal deficit? *
Taxes are out of control at the Federal, State, and local levels. I believe that the government needs to remember that they are spending OUR money and that it needs to be spend prudently. Deficit spending was intended to cover expenses in times of crisis and was not supposed to be the norm. If Marylanders handled their finances in the same way Congress handles OUR tax dollars, the entire State population would be bankrupt. I will work to restore fiscal prudence to government spending and seek to return to a more balanced budget.
What is your position on gun rights? *
I am a supporter of the U.S. Constitution - all of it. Based on my research of the intentions of the Founding Fathers, I believe that the Second Amendment is there to protect Americans against all threats - including governmental tyranny. I do feel that there must be reasonable safeguards to ensure that people who pose a threat to society have no access to firearms. I also believe that strict enforcement of existing gun laws at the Federal level would curtail most issues regarding this issue.
What is your position on the federal legalization of marijuana? *
I believe that Marijuana should be de-scheduled and eventually legalized at the Federal level. It should be regulated in a manner consistent with how alcohol and cigarettes have been handled and the tax revenue derived from the legal sale of Marijuana should be earmarked for specific programs.
What is your position on trade? *
I believe in free trade, but I have concerns about countries that work to undermine our economic interests by "dumping" products onto the market. Safeguards need to be in place to protect American manufacturing and consumer against such practices. I also believe that free trade blocs benefit those nations that are members and should be expanded to meet the needs of our nation.
What is your position on foreign policy and military issues? *
America needs to regain its position as the leader of the free world. Current Administration policies have weakened our influence and continues to erode our position on the world stage. Restoring diplomatic policies that are consistent with our ideals is critical. Our military is no longer in a position to defend our global interests as it has for the past century. We cannot afford to continue to allow declining recruitment, social experimentation, ineffective leadership, and spiraling equipment costs, to impact our military readiness. I will work to improve the quality of life issues plaguing our military that affect our ability to recruit qualified volunteers. I will seek to hold the leadership of the Department of Defense accountable for every dime of YOUR tax money that is spent and seek to improve the way in which we procure and purchase weapon systems and other equipment.
What policies would you support to fight inflation? *
Prices of everything from food, to housing, to fuel have skyrocketed over the past several years. Congress' so-called solutions to this have only made things for the average American worse. I see it every time I go to the grocery store or gas station. More and more Marylanders are having difficulty paying for basic needs. The higher cost of fuel has led the reasons for higher prices; as these increased costs are passed along to the consumers. I would work to restore America's energy independence. I believe that this can be done while still protecting the environment. I would also seek to repeal any legislation that further damages the economy and makes things for us more expensive. I will serve as a advocate for Maryland products and services to be included in any proposed economic legislation.
What is your position on Transgender issues?
I believe that all people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Those who are truly transgender should be treated no differently than any other American. The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees equal protection for all under the law. I do have concerns with the way this issue has been handled when it comes to our children. I do not believe that it is the place of the schools to push social positions on our children; and that parents have the right to be notified of any and all issues related to their children. The U.S. Supreme Court has determined that parenting is a Fundamental Right. Parents should have the right to opt their child out of any instruction related to sexuality; as they had in the past. Teachers should never be allowed to instruct students on issues that should be reserved for parents, unless they are teaching a specific course of instruction that has been sanctioned by parents.
