Circle City Wiffle Wins Epic Final to Claim NWLA Championship
Hometown team wins in an extra inning walk-off
Circle City Wiffle was hosting the NWLA tournament in Indianapolis for the second time this year. And they provided the hometown crowd with something to celebrate.
Will Smithey hit a walk-off three-run home run in extra innings to defeat Skibbe Wiffleball in the championship game.
Circle City won the title without losing a game all weekend, going 3-0 in pool play on Saturday.
Skibbe had to come through the losers bracket, defeating Mid Atlantic Wiffle the advance to the championship. MAW had just defeated the defending national champions Griffleball 4-3 in the previous game.
It was a rough weekend for two of the more famous leagues on streaming services. Both Michigan-based Major League Wiffle and Las Vegas-based Premier League Wiffle went 0-3 on Saturday in pool play. PLW’s Saturday included a 15-0 loss to Skibbe and a 28-13 loss to Circle City.
In bracket play, PLW went two-and-out with losses to Ridley Park and MAW. MLW managed a 2-2 record in bracket play, falling to MAW 12-5 in the Loser’s Bracket.
The NWLA Tournament is expected to return to Indianapolis in 2023.
