Democratic Polling Firm Push Polls Maryland over Hogan Candidacy
Somebody is afraid of Larry Hogan's candidacy...
Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling is trying to link Larry Hogan’s Senate candidacy to a national ban on abortion.
I know because, like in 2022, I was polled.
The poll was sent to me via text message reading:
Hi, this is Liz w/ Public Policy Polling! We're conducting a short survey on important Maryland issues & your participation would be greatly appreciated: https://www.research.net/r/PRRTWSG?N=4103705149
Yes, the link above works and you can see the entirety of the poll for yourself.
The three questions that truly stand out as identifying this as a push poll are as follows:
12. Larry Hogan was recruited by Mitch McConnell to run for US Senate. He’ll vote with Republicans in the Senate who support a national ban on abortion. Does hearing this make you more likely or less likely to vote for Larry Hogan, or does it not make a difference?
More likely
Less likely
It doesn’t make a difference
Not sure
13. Having heard some more information, let me ask you again: if the candidates for US Senate this year were Republican Larry Hogan and a Democratic candidate, who would you vote for?
Larry Hogan
The Democratic candidate
Not sure
Having the link so publicly available like that goes to show just how worthless the poll is; it can be spoiled by anybody.
But that’s not the point of this poll.
It’s obvious that whoever paid for this poll (probably the National Democratic Senatorial Committee) wanted potential swing voters to link Larry Hogan to Mitch McConnell and to abortion. Whoever is paying Public Policy Polling wants these voters to think that Larry Hogan would be a lapdog for McConnell and would vote with other Republicans for a national abortion ban. Hogan himself has not taken a position on that in this campaign, so the Democrats are trying to do it for him.1
The moral of this story? Somebody National Democrats understand just how competitive Larry Hogan can be this fall.
Let’s be clear. EVERY Senator should vote for an abortion pan, preferably a Constitutional amendment outlawing it.
