ENDORSEMENT: Barry Glassman for Comptroller
No candidate to run for Comptroller has ever had the breadth of experience as Barry Glassman. Maryland needs him as its next Comptroller.
Peter Franchot decided to forgo a lifetime sinecure as Comptroller to run for Governor this year and lose in the Democratic Party. Whether you liked Franchot’s reign as Comptroller or not, there is no doubt he changed the office of Comptroller and its perception. He modernized the office in some ways. And yet, he still spent a lot of his time dawdling in areas that were completely unrelated to the Office of Comptroller.
This year, Maryland voters will make a historic choice; they will either elect the first female Comptroller or the first Republican Comptroller since Phillips Lee Goldsborough left office in 1900.
The choice is obvious.
Democrat Brooke Lierman is the daughter of career politico Terry Lierman. Though born in Maryland, she spent over ten years outside of Maryland, going to college at Dartmouth, law school at Texas, practicing law in Massachusetts, and working for radical left-wing candidates causes in Minnesota, Vermont, and Wisconsin. She came back to establish a political career, serving two terms in the House of Delegates. Running for Comptroller is merely the next stepping stone on what Lierman sees as her neverending upward trajectory.
Lierman’s time in the House hasn’t exactly been exemplary either. Among other ideas she has championed include mileage taxes, styrofoam box bans and bag taxes than impact the poor and working families. And considering that her agenda, in the mold of Peter Franchot, contains a litany of radical left-wing proposals that would cost Maryland taxpayer billions.
Brooke Lierman may be from Maryland, but she is not of Maryland. She’s a D.C-style politico who wants to use Maryland to her advantage.
Fortunately, Maryland voters have a fantastic alternative in Harford County Executive Barry Glassman.
Barry Glassman has over thirty years of experience at the state and county levels. He served two terms on the Harford County Council, nine years as a Delegate, six years as a State Senator, and is finishing his second term as Harford County Executive. He has been active in the Maryland Association of Counties, serving as President in 2019. Glassman has held the line on taxes, emphasized innovation, and expected fiscal efficiency.
But it isn’t just Glassman’s governing experience that set him apart. Glassman is a farmer. He’s a small business owner. A 4-h Member. A Boy Scout. He grew up in Harford County. He went to college on the Eastern Shore.
You can’t get much more Maryland than Barry Glassman. He understands how our government works. He understands what it means to make a payroll. And he understands the regulatory burden that businesses and families alike face living here.
What’s just as important is the idea that the Comptroller is Maryland’s fiscal watchdog.
The Board of Public Works consists of the Governor, the Treasurer, and the Comptroller. The Treasurer will be Dereck Davis. The Governor will likely be Wes Moore. Maryland can ill-afford to have a Board of Public Works consisting entirely of radical left-wing Democrats who don’t have your interests at heart. In that scenario, who speaks for the taxpayer?
If you want a champion for taxpayers, Barry Glassman is the only choice. The Duckpin enthusiastically endorses Barry Glassman for Comptroller of Maryland. Glassman is the Comptroller that Maryland needs.
