Everybody dreams about hitting a walk-off home run to win the championship. Today, Jordan Robles lived the dream.
Robles, arguably the best wiffleball player in the world, hit a walkoff home run in extra innings to lead ERL to their third Mid Atlantic Wiffle Championship with a 1-0 win over the Ridley Park Longballs.
The homer came in the ninth inning of a game scheduled for five innings in the deciding game of the best of three series. ERL won game one 2-1, with the Longballs coming back for a 2-1 win to force game three.
Both teams had tough tasks earlier in the semi-finals. The Longballs upset the two-time defending MAW Champions and two-time defending World Champions the Juggernauts two games to one to get to the finals. ERL swept Wiff Inc. in two games, including a ten-inning game two that was naturally won by Robles with a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth.
Today’s win makes ERL the first time to win three MAW Championships. The only other teams to win the MAW title are the Juggernauts and the Stompers, both with two wins a piece.
The wiffleball world now sets its eyes on York, Pennsylvania on October 7th and 8th for the 2023 United Wiffle World Championship, where these four teams will join 36 others competing for the biggest prize in all of competitive wiffle.
