Giordano Seeks to Name Cox Special Legal Counsel for Wicomico County
Giordano wants to replace the current special counsel with the guy who endorsed her, and she wants taxpayers to pay a pretty penny for the privilege.
Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano is looking to fire the county’s current special legal counsel and replace him with Dan Cox.
According to a memo obtained by The Duckpin, Giordano has submitted Cox’s name to the Wicomico County Council as a replacement for current special legal counsel Kevin Karpinski.
According to the documents, Cox is seeking to charge the county $350 per hour for his services. For comparison, Wicomico County Attorney Paul Wilber only charges the county $185.
Giordano has nominated Cox to replace the current county special legal counsel Kevin Karpinski. Karpinski, a partner of Karpinski, Cornbrooks, and Carp, has a long and distinguished record of practice in matters of local government law.
Dan Cox does not have that but does have a record of losing frivolous lawsuits against the state over mandates, election law, and a few other things. His lawsuit over mandates was practically copied and pasted from a failed Virginia suit, and included numerous spelling errors. Spelling errors were a theme of Cox’s gubernatorial campaign.
The only other case of note for Cox was the one where Cox put a child sex offender back on the streets.
Arguably, this looks like a political payoff for Cox. Giordano was endorsed by Cox in her primary campaign against incumbent acting County Executive John Psota last year.
This is just a way to keep Cox’s name relevant in Wicomico County. He’s also made it possible to wind up on two state payrolls thanks to his supporters, as Cox’s recently started as Pennsylvania Senator Doug Mastriano’s errand boy Chief-of-Staff.
It is unclear if the Wicomico County Council will support this measure and why they would want to replace a competent attorney with a political stooge like Cox.
