Greenville GOP Embraces the Stupid
Sure, Donald Trump has doomed the GOP in races where he has gotten involved. But that sure hasn't stopped the cult of personality continuing
The Greenville County Republican Party in South Carolina apparently decided that just being Republican isn’t enough. They have to identify as Trump Republicans.
A South Carolina group of Republicans has signaled it supports former President Donald Trump in a manner that some might find hair-raising.
The Greenville County Republican Party’s new logo features the standard elephant logo used by other GOP groups, but with a unique addition: a swath of hair meant to mimic the former president’s trademark combover.
Greenville GOP Chairman Jeff Davis told the Charleston Post & Courier that the new logo is meant to show the rift between the more establishment style of conservatism and the populist, right-wing brand of politics embraced by Trump and his supporters.
“It is very difficult for the average citizen to differentiate between one GOP and another GOP,” Davis told the paper. “That’s what we’re trying to do; we want to help people distinguish between the two.”
“It’s not fully a battle between ‘R’ and ‘D,’” he added. “It’s between the establishment members of both parties and ‘We the People.’”
Words cannot describe how stupid this move really is. Not just in the context of Donald Trump being electoral poison as Tuesday proved. But in the context of these goofy pro-Trump leaders in Greenville County trying to further wedge Greenville’s GOP between sane and Trump Cult factions.
Of course, this clique of leaders is of “We the People” who worships the ground of a left-wing Democratic New Yorker, a failed businessman who inherited his fortune and failed at most ventures, including his statist Presidency.
No level of irony is complete without pointing out that this “separatist” faction is led by new county chairman Jeff Davis, which is rather appropriate.
Once again, this just goes to show the extend to which the cult of personality that has been built around Trump has poisoned local Republican Parties around the country. Changing a logo is a cosmetic tool that basically amounts to saying “I’m With Stupid” instead of saying “I Am a Republican.” But it certainly doesn’t elect Republicans of any level, particularly in Democratically-controlled Greenville.
Let’s hope no other Republican Parties emulate this stupid idea.
That's really funny. Greenville County is currently dealing with the cheating and stealing of an election by a former chairman and your feelings are hurt over a logo. I think you have the wrong definition of news. Making fun of the people who came into the party fresh and overcame a stolen election isn't news. It's childish. Fresh faces overcoming a stolen election, and why they did it, (their support of Trump), is news. This is nothing more than a shortsighted opinion piece.
