Harris Keeps Digging the Hole
It's already reached the point where the Maryland GOP Executive Committee needs to Remove Nicole Harris as Chairwoman before she kills the party dead once and for all.
First, there was nominating an election denier to the State Board of Elections.
And now, Maryland GOP Chair Nicole Beus Harris is trying to raise money defending the nomination of an election denier to the State Board of Elections even after it came out that he was convicted of embezzlement.
In a fundraising email sent this afternoon, Harris accused Governor Wes Moore of being a dictator, among other things:
Late last week, Governor Moore denied the Maryland GOP's nominee for the State Board of Elections.
He seems to think he is a dictator, not a governor.
The law is clear - it is the Senate's job to approve or deny nominees, not the governor's (§ 2-101, Sec. 2). He has no authority to unilaterally deny the minority party representation on such an important board. We are consulting with attorneys on next steps.
We need your help to fight this out-of-control administration. Will you consider making a contribution to help hold this administration’s feet to the fire and make them operate within all laws and statutes? The integrity of our elections in Maryland is at stake! Not only is Governor Moore thumbing his nose at the letter of the law, he is coordinating with the media to engage in sneaky, hyper-partisan attacks on his political opponents.
We have learned that a completely different letter was sent to the media than was sent to the Maryland GOP.Why would the governor send a letter to the media an entire day before they send a completely different letter to us? The answer is clear - they are coordinating with the liberal media to attack Republicans.
Not only are his actions egregiously partisan and two-faced, but the justification given for the denial falls flat on its face. Our nominee was appropriately skeptical about the integrity of Maryland elections. Being a skeptic is not a disqualifier for a Board of Elections official - it should be a requirement. Our government needs transparency. If our elections are to be free and fair, they should hold up to the strongest of scrutiny from the loudest of voices – not just those voices who agree with ours or the Governor’s. It’s not just the integrity of our elections that is important – but also the perception of integrity. We want every Marylander to be confident that every vote is accurately counted if we are to ensure that their voices are heard, and democracy is intact.
Then she pitched people for money. And while I understand that Harris only knows one play in the political consultant’s playbook and that’s to raise money (after all, it’s not like her consulting firm had many clients but, conveniently, her husband).
This entire thing has become little more than a farce. Instead of just taking the L and moving on, Harris continues to make an ass out of herself and the party by continuing to double down more and more on a royal screwup that she just can’t admit was wrong.
Want to know how ridiculous this all is? Even Gordana Schifanelli thinks it’s a bad idea.
I mean……
This entire thing is ridiculous. And, much like I said yesterday, this “perception of integrity” thing makes an appearance. The reason that people lack "a “perception of integrity” is because people like William Newton and people like Harris’s own husband Andy Harris sow doubt in the minds of average Americans by spewing bullshit conspiracy theories without any statements to back them up.
When will this madness end? And, a better question at this point, is when will the Central Committee members finally stand up and say ENOUGH and force Nicole Harris out of office before she breaks the Maryland GOP once and for all? Because it has already reached the point that Nicole Harris needs to be removed as Chairman before she kills the MDGOP dead.
