Kirwan Commission May Require Defunding Schools in the Name of "Equity"
In testimony before the Anne Arundel County Board of Education last week, an Anne Arundel County Public Schools official acknowledged that some schools may be required to lose funding to meet Kirwan Commission goals.
When responding to questioning from Board Member Corinne Frank, AACPS Chief Financial Officer Matt Stanksi noted that funding may have to be removed from some schools in order to send the money to other schools.
Stanski is not at fault here. He’s just the messenger stuck working within the convoluted legal formula that the Democrats beloved Kirwin Commission lays out.
So thanks to the Kirwin Commission recommendations, some schools in Anne Arundel County will lose funding to redistribute the money to other schools all in the name of equity. It is unclear how the schools that will be losing funding will be expected to meet the Kirwan Commission goals when the entire point of the Kirwan Commission was to increase funding to meet the Kirwin Commission goals.
