Maryland GOP Financial Situation is Bleak
Finances under Nicole Harris's Chairmanship are so bad that the Maryland Republican Party trails the Maryland Libertarian Party in cash
The annual campaign finance reports show a desperate situation for Maryland Republicans.
Though the Maryland Republican Party brought in $182,165.31 in 2023, of which $164,993.98 was general fundraising and not transfers from other committees. They managed to spend $180,585.39.
The State GOP managed to spent most of that money on fundraising expenses, which clocked in at $99,323.40. That means that for every dollar the State GOP spent on fundraising, they only raised $1.66.
Amazing what happens to fundraising when Donald Trump is the face of the GOP and the Republicans nominate an unlikeable and uncompetitive candidate for Governor.
Things are so bad that the Party currently owes the entire balance of the $100,000 in loans they have taken out from Truist Bank.
The Maryland Republican Party currently have only $20,180.51 cash on hand. Comparatively, the Maryland Democratic Party has $276,100.25.
With $29,729.22 cash on hand, even the Maryland Libertarian Party has more money available to it that the Maryland Republican Party right now.
It’s unclear exactly how Nicole Harris expects the Maryland Republican Party in Maryland to be competitive anymore when they keep hemorrhaging money and trail a third party in cash on hand. But Republicans would be wise to ditch Harris before they trail other parties in cash and competitiveness, too. After all, with No Labels potentially fielding a candidate in Maryland this year even second place is no guarantee.
