O'Malley Appointment Endangers Social Security
Marylanders would not let Martin O'Malley run a yard sale. Joe Biden put him in charge of your Social Security benefits.
If you think Social Security is endangered now, you haven’t seen anything yet:
U.S. President Joe Biden has picked former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley to lead the massive, financially challenged U.S. agency that distributes Social Security benefits to the elderly and disabled, the White House told Reuters on Wednesday.
O'Malley, a Democrat, would need to be confirmed by the Senate to become commissioner of the Social Security Administration at a time when political partisanship has made confirming presidential nominees increasingly difficult.
A former Baltimore city council member and city mayor, O'Malley's eight-year term as Maryland governor ended in 2015. His 2016 presidential run as a younger, more liberal alternative to Democratic Party frontrunner Hillary Clinton failed to catch fire.
"Governor O’Malley is a lifelong public servant who has spent his career making government more accessible and transparent, while keeping the American people at the heart of his work," said Biden in a statement.
It is very clear that Joe Biden has no clue about the kind of man or the kind of leader that Martin O’Malley is.
Much digital ink was spilled by myself and others during Martin O’Malley’s eight disastrous years as Governor of Maryland. It was not just the awful, left-wing policies that were espoused by the O’Malley Administration that created problems for the people of Maryland.
It was the years of reckless spending. What national Democrats fail to remember is that Martin O’Malley left Maryland in a fiscal hole so deep that it sunk his predecessor from ascending to the Governorship. It took O’Malley’s successor, Larry Hogan, to pull the nose up on Maryland’s economy and eliminate the structural deficit. It was a hole that O’Malley himself dug for the people, against all common sense and advice even from most legislative Democrats.
On the bright side, O’Malley does have plenty of experience robbing Peter to pay Paul in the same manner that Congress keeps Social Security afloat.
The other issue with O’Malley is the trail of corruption that followed him throughout his eight long years as Governor. That’s why when you do a search for “O’Malley Corruption” you come back with quite a few stories, such as
The O’Malley Administration failed to properly audit state agencies;
Martin O’Malley steered contracts to Democratic donors, which was an ongoing theme during his term;
He considered a prison scandal on his watch as an “accomplishment”.
O’Malley financed a hotel at taxpayer expense that costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars;
Calls for O’Malley to resign for his cover-up of tax evasion by a high-ranking O’Malley Administration official;
O’Malley illegally used the Maryland State Board of Regents as a fundraising tool.
O’Malley steered a $2.2 million land deal to a former associate.
And don’t forget O’Malley was investigated by the state prosecutor for an inappropriate sale of state furniture to the O’Malley family as he left office.
Marylanders would not let Martin O'Malley run a yard sale. So yeah, Martin O’Malley is the poster child for Democratic corruption. Not exactly the guy you want to entrust your golden years to, is it?
There are many problems with Social Security. Most of them cannot be fixed without radical reforms that Congress is too chicken to enact. But appointing a dolt like Martin O’Malley to lead the Social Security Administration is one surefire way to make things worse.
