Republicans Are Ensuring Obamacare Never Dies
Maybe so called "fiscal conservatives" truly love subsidies when it helps “their people”
The adoption of Obamacare in 2010 remains one of the worst policy decisions the United States has made in this century. And Republicans may have fought tooth and nail against the adoption of Obamacare. Ted Cruz may have single-handedly shut down the federal government in 2013 to defund it. And Donald Trump has claimed for ten years to have a plan (or “concepts of a plan”) to replace it.
But it will be Republicans who keep Obamacare alive. Forever:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) unexpectedly came out in favor of extending the enhanced premium Obamacare tax credits.
MTG said in a Monday evening post on X1 that she is “absolutely disgusted that health insurance premiums will DOUBLE if the tax credits expire this year.”
“[I]’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district,” MTG added.
Greene is hardly the only Republican who is working to protect the Obamacare tax credit. Senator Josh Hawley, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator Susan Collins, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick are also on the record for extending this Obamacare tax credit.
That you will never get the votes for repealing Obamacare should not be a surprise from the party that nominated a Presidential candidate three times who supports universal healthcare.2
