Just wanted to jot down a few thoughts here tonight on Election Night, as we continue to look at the results coming in for the Maryland Primary.
I thought Angela Alsobrooks would win the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. I did not think she would win the primary by 11%, which is where her lead sits as I write this.
If I were David Trone, I would be annoyed that I could have purchased a Bombardier Global Express XRS private jet and still had the same number of U.S. Senate seats I have now.
I am genuinely surprised that Larry Hogan is at 62% in the Republican U.S. Senate primary. That being said, Robin Ficker did spend three times as much money in the primary than Hogan did.
With Ficker and Trone both losing, Gordana Schifanelli managed to endorse two different Senate primary losers. The amount of incompetence it takes to do that is astounding.
I don’t think that the attacks on Sarah Elfreth being supported by AIPAC hurt her in the Democratic primary nearly as much as Democrats thought it would.
THAT being said, the Washington establishment support for Harry Dunn didn’t translate into a victory or anything close to it.
The fact that I thought both the Democratic Senate and 3rd District races would be really close shows why I’m really bad at handicapping Democratic primaries.
Muslim Chaplain and Republican Congressional Candidate Chris Hyser apparently just can’t take no for an answer:
Hyser is sitting at 2.65% in the 6th District Republican Primary.
Speaking of that primary, I expected Neil Parrott to eek out a win. I certainly did not expect him to resoundingly defeat Dan Cox by 20%
Speaking of Dan Cox, Dan Cox’s career as a viable political candidate is over.
I am legitimately shocked by how Tom Royals crashed and burned in this primary. Royals raised a ton of money, and he is sitting a very distant fourth behind Mariela Roca.
Baltimore Democratic primary voters re-electing Brandon Scott shows that while they have bad taste in candidates, their tastes aren’t so bad that they will bring back Sheila Dixon.
Cecil County Republicans look like they are ousting incumbent County Executive Danielle Hornberger, which will mean that none of the first three Couty Executives in Cecil County history will have been renominated by their party.
I think a lot of people will be reading into tonight’s results looking for a clue as to what will happen in November. And you would be better off looking at a Magic * ball….
