Steuart Pittman Still an Environmental Hypocrite
Wealthy Horseman Suing the Fossil Fuel Companies that he'll need to use his slick new camper
Filing this suit is about protecting our taxpayers and businesses from the growing fiscal impacts of climate change,” County Executive Steuart Pittman (D) said in a statement. “The damage inflicted by these companies damages our environment, and creates massive costs that shouldn’t be borne on the backs of our residents.”
The lawsuit seeks to help Anne Arundel County recover damages from companies whose “decades of deception” is harming land and infrastructure in the county, officials said. It cites the local effects of climate change, including the threats that sea level rise, flooding, and inundation pose to thousands of residents and homes across the county.
The county has about 530 miles of shoreline.
Anne Arundel County Attorney Gregory J. Swain said “the complaints are similar” to a lawsuit filed against fossil fuel companies by the City of Annapolis in February. The county is using the same law firm as the city, Swain added.
The lawsuit looks for compensatory and punitive damages, and includes public-nuisance and other claims. The suit names 26 plaintiffs, including industry giants BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, Citgo and the American Petroleum Institute.
This, of course, is part of the continued Democratic strategy to gum up the courts with frivolous lawsuits designed to force America off of energy independence and instead be at the whims of taxpayer-subsidized alternative energies.
Pittman’s concerns about fossil fuels, however, do not extend to his personal life. Where Pittman recently purchased a new camping trailer from Buckley’s RV in Thurmont.
The Grand Design Transcend 261BH is a 6,078 pound, 30 foot long trailer with an MSRP of $31,119.
I guess Pittman, ever the environmental champion, will be towing this three-ton (unloaded) beast with an electric vehicle? Of course he won’t because no electric vehicle has a towing capacity to tow it. Pittman, by necessity, will be using a gas-guzzling or diesel-spewing SUV or truck to tow his new play thing.
That Steuart Pittman is a hypocrite on the environment should not be a surprise to you. Let us take you back to 2019 when Pittman rammed a tough new forestry bill through the Anne Arundel County Council despite the fact that Pittman clear-cut 7. acres of forest on the Dodon Land Trust family land that Pittman administered so his sister could build a winery.
I don’t begrudge the fact that Pittman has a camper. More power to him. But the hypocrisy of Pittman purchasing a gas-guzzling behemoth as he is suing the gas companies that get him to is destination is extremely rich and indicative of the usual Democratic hypocrisy on environmental issues, akin to when Hollywood stars take private jets to climate summits. And it deserves to be called out and mocked for the hypocrisy and elitism it displays.
