The Monday Thought
Maryland is in a budget crisis, a crime crisis, and an education crisis. The General Assembly session ends in three weeks. So how is Governor Wes Moore spending his time this weekend?
Yes, the Governor of Maryland decamped to Florida in the middle of the General Assembly session with his family and decided for giggles to take batting practice with the Orioles today.
What is the Governor doing taking a vacation in the middle of the General Assembly session you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. Is it because he is too naive due to his lack of qualifications for the job to know anybody? Is it because he has passed the buck on governing to his cabinet and to Democrats in the General Assembly? After all, it seems like Senate President Bill Ferguson is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for Democrats these days.
Regardless of why is there, it goes to show how unserious of a politician and a leader Wes Moore truly is. Sure, he looks the part and he seems like a nice guy to hang out with. But he was never ready for prime time and likely never will be.
Wes Moore is a lightweight. And we all know it.
It also is a stark reminder of how much Republicans dropped the ball in the 2022 primary by nominating an unquantifiable, unelectable, and incompetent freak show at the top of the ticket in the gubernatorial election instead of a well-qualified, electable and sane ticket. No doubt, a lesson that can be applied to this year’s Senate race and hopefully the 2026 Governor’s race.
Between a Governor who is unqualified for the job on one side and a party hellbent on losing on the other, Maryland is in a uniquely dangerous place as the state deals with the multiple crises it faces. It is a reminder that we are governed by highly unserious people.
