The Case Against John A. Myrick: A Liability for Maryland Republicans: In the chess game of political candidacy, the objective is not just to play, but to win. William F. Buckley Jr.'s enduring advice to conservatives was to support "the rightward-most viable candidate."
Ben Franklin's Wisdom on Taxes: That is a key observation that leads to more certainty on discussions and debates on taxes and fees in Maryland.

The Monday Thought
Like a bad plague of locusts, protesters have taken up residence in encampments on college campuses across the United States.
Ostensibly, the students are protesting the “genocide” in Gaza being allegedly committed by Israel. No such thing is occurring, mind you. This is, after all, a war that Gaza started by its brutal invasion of Israel and all of the raping, kidnapping, and killing that they brought with them.
Of course, most students appear to have absolutely no idea *what* they are protesting.
Nor do they seem to understand that the people they are supporting are terrorists who are not on their side.
Tied into this mess is the “Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement”, the anti-Semitic movement to force Israel to stop its action in the West Bank and Gaza, the very same Gaza that started this war in the first place.
The entire movement is based on Anti-Semitism and pro-terrorist sentiment. A sentiment that protesters are so proud of that they are trying to avoid any culpability for the actions they are taking.
Perhaps one of the reasons they are so keen to avoid culpability is the fact that there has never been a consequence for their dumfuckery before this protesters from the past have also evaded consequences throughout the course of their lives.
In 1968, protests erupted across the country on a variety of things, coming to a head with the riots outside of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago that August. The protests were focused on two-things; ending the war and protesting the Johnson Administration from a far-left perspective. Things….did not go well in Chicago, leading to riots, looting, violence, and the trial of the Chicago Seven. Most of the Chicago Seven, however, escaped major consequences for their actions. Jerry Rubin became a millionaire businessman. Abbie Hoffman kept protesting.1
Other protestors in that time frame also showed anti-war and pro-terrorists sympathies through their visible support of the Vietcong. For example, what consequences did Jane Fonda really suffer for manning a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft battery during the middle of the war?
The fact is that the students who are protesting know damn well that, in the long run, they will suffer no consequences for their actions protesting in support of anti-Semitism and terrorism. They know that they will not have records that trail them for the rest of their lives like the January 6th putschists will. And it’s very easy to just go along to get along with the crowd when the entire push for protests is organized by living breathing communists, the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
The wildest thing about these protests is that, generally, the conflict doesn’t have a damn thing to do with us. This is not a situation where American troops are on the ground in Israel. While we are selling weapons and giving aid to Israel, we give weapons and aid to lots of countries, including Poland, Ukraine and Taiwan. Where are the anti-war protests there? Why aren’t these people protesting Russia’s attempt to eradicate the Ukranian people?
We know the answer of course; the rampant anti-Semitism that has always existed on the left.
That brings us back to this August. Where the Democratic National Convention will return to…Chicago. In a spring that has been rocked by protests, the likelihood that we will see a repeat of 1968 is non-zero. At a time when anti-Semitic pro-Palestinian protests are occurring along with a significant far-left protest movement against the Biden Administration, the likelihood of significant anti-Democratic agitation in Chicago is very high.
Wiil then we see a repeat of 1968 and a Republican Presidential candidate resurrects their career by winning the election? That is less certain. Had Republicans nominated literally anybody but Donald Trump, the likelihood of these protests leading to the election of the Republican nominee would be incredibly high, especially given the other factors in the political climate. Since Republicans again nominated Trump, that makes winning four times as difficult due to Trump’s criminal situation, his involvement in the January 6th coup d’etat attempt, Trump’s totalitarian rhetoric, and his mental decline. But protests certainly do not hurt his chances.
If you listen closely, you can hear the Echoes of 1968. Let us hope that things don’t get nuttier from here.2
To be fair, Rubin and Hoffman were sentenced to five years in prison but had their convictions overturned on appeal.
They will.
