The Usual Suspects Claim Third Title
Historic squad upends the three-time defending champs at the United Wiffle World Championship
A three-peat was not in the cards for the Juggernauts. The Usual Suspects defeated the two-time defending champions 3-0 of the finals of the 2023 United Wiffle World Championship at Wellspan Park in York, PA.
The Suspects entered the Championship Bracket at 2-1 following wins over TC 35 and the WILL Waves before dropping the “Group of Death” finale against 2022 finalists the New York Meats. The team entered made the Final Four after a second win over TC 35 and a revenge game win against the Meats. After defeating the Phenoms (reigning MAW Champions ERL), they advanced to the final.
The title is the third overall championship for the Usual Suspects, previously winning the 2010 Golden Stick National Title and the first United Wiffle National Championship in 2020.
Old Line Wiffle Club, owned by The Duckpin’s parent company Egoskor LLC and captained by Editor-in-Chief Brian Griffiths, won their first United Wiffle game by defeating the Long Island Dumps 7-6 in their second game.
The 2024 United Wiffle World Championship Tournament is currently planned to return to Wellspan Park next October.
